A drive down the A4 road will bring the visitor to Brookeborough. The loughs and marshes of Fermanagh lie to its west and to the east is its border with Tyrone.
In the very centre of the Fermanagh lakes and marshes is this small hamlet of Drumskinny. It is very near to the boundary with Tyrone. The Derg and Erne Loughs are also close by.
It is a village remembered for the victory the Protestants of Fermanagh won over the Jacobites in 1689. Crom Castle was the stronghold of the Earl of Erne. It is on a picturesque wooded demesne and open to all through the National Trust, 3 miles to the south west. Here can be seen the remains of another castle which goes back further in time to 1611. On the premises is a very old yew tree perhaps the largest in Ireland.
The village of Roslea is on the border region between Fermanagh and Monaghan. From atop Carn rock one can get a birds eye view of the entire Ulster County. Of late the village made it to the headlines when it was found that President Clintons ancestors hailed from Roslea. Lakes abound in this area making it a haven for fisher folk who thrive on it. Some places are good for swimming but it is better to take the advice of the locals to find out the safest places.
